San Francisco Baykeeper Hosts Cleanup at India Basin Shoreline Park

Sara Aminzadeh, San Francisco Baykeeper (415) 794-8422

WHAT: Beach Cleanup at India Basin Shoreline Park

WHEN: Saturday, September 19, 2009 (10 am to noon)

WHERE: India Basin Shoreline Park in the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood (on Hunters Point Boulevard between Evans and Innes)

WHY: Giving Help Where Help is Needed: San Francisco Baykeeper is hosting a beach cleanup at India Basin Shoreline Park to target the serious marine debris problem that disproportionately affects our City's eastern shoreline. During the 2007 California Coastal Cleanup Day, 70% of 14,000 lbs. of trash was picked up on the east side of San Francisco, while 80% of 2,500 volunteers cleaned up on the west side of San Francisco.

VISUALS: 50+ adults and kids removing tires, shoes, and other garbage from San Francisco’s heavily littered eastern shoreline; industrial backdrop of Bayview/Hunters Point. Interviews available with Baykeeper staff and cleanup participants.
